In Tibetan “Yar” means summer and “Ne” means staying at one place. Together they mean staying at one place during summer by engaging in the meritorious activities. It is called “Summer Retreat” in English. Yarne originated in the time of the Buddha Shakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism.
